    Deviant Thumbs…

Deviant Thumbs is a simple Wordpress plugin which displays a chosen number of thumbs from a custom selection of deviations from DeviantArt. Since version 1.3, the thumbs can be enclosed in a scrollable carousel….

    thanks friend for this plug-in

  • scribu says:

    You’re welcome. :)

  • This is a really nice addition to Word Press. I’m glad to see it, as there aren’t too many! Thank you for making this! :)

  • Sav says:

    Hi Scribu,

Great plugin. I put it on my site. So glad to see Wordpress + dA integration. I also made a tiny change to your code (Just removed the ‘li’ tags from the PHP).

So instead of having them in a column, I now have the thumbnails horizontally. I hope you don’t mind that.

  • scribu says:

Actualy, it used to have two parameters, before and after, that would allow you to choose what to display between thumbs.

After your comment, I think I’l add them back. Thank you! :)

  • Simone says:

Hi, very nice plugin! I love deviations :-)
I will like so much a feature to have a x numbers of thumbs scrollable, eg. using js components like that:
    http://sorgalla.com/projects/jcarousel/examples/static_vertical.html
    or autoscrolling:
    http://sorgalla.com/projects/jcarousel/examples/static_auto.html
    or like that:http://zendold.lojcomm.com.br/icarousel/#selflink_examples

    could be possible?
    Thanks a lot, Simone Italy

  • scribu says:

Yes, in fact, calling the deviant_thumbs() function as the content for the carousel, you can integrate it with any of those scripts, without needing to modify the plugin at all.

Edit: I think it will be best if I integrate the plugin with jCarousel, so stay tuned.

  • Simone says:

Thanks Scribu, will wait for this integration :-)
Im glad if you will let me know…

    hi. Thanks for plugin

    perfect.

  • Simone says:

Hi! Wow so great job, thanks for this latest implementation :-)

Thanks A lot For Plug In updated!!

  • Laur says:

The Yahoo pipe is currently broken (probably dA has changed the API). All deviation links now look like this: “http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/http://.deviantart.com/”.

    Noroc!

  • scribu says:

Thanks for letting me know. I’ll fix it as soon as possible. Done.

  • Goen says:

This plugin makes XHTML invalid. :(

    It’s using [img src=""] not [img src="" alt="" /].

  • scribu says:

You’re right. I’ve fixed it in Yahoo Pipes. Just wait for the cache to be updated.

  • Laur says:

Another minor annoyance: upgrading the plug-in automatically doesn’t work:

…/wp-content/plugins/deviant-thumbs/cache/) [function.dir]: failed to open dir: Permission denied in …/wp-admin/includes/class-wp-filesystem-direct.php on line 221

Fatal error: Call to a member function read() on a non-object in …/wp-admin/includes/class-wp-filesystem-direct.php on line 222

My guess is that the cache dir cannot be removed by the uninstall process – either because the cache is still in use or because the uninstaller does not delete the folder recursively (unlikely). I guess you could remove the cache on plugin deactivation (if you have a trigger for that).

  • scribu says:

Yes, I know. Hopefully, when you upgrade from version 1.6.1 this won’t happen anymore.

  • Tami says:

Trying to activate the plugin and I get the following error :

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_CLASS in /home/tami/public_html/tamijean/wp-content/plugins/deviant-thumbs/deviant-thumbs.php on line 32

    (version of thumbs is 1.6.1)

  • scribu says:

This version only works with PHP5. Your host must be running PHP4 or lower. I recommend getting your site hosted elsewhere or getting your hosting company to upgrade their version of PHP.

  • fred says:

Man you’re plugin is very very nice, I’ve been looking for this one for long.

As soon as i found out, I started to use it, visit my homepage if you’re curious.

    Thanks!

  • Vetto says:

I use this all the time, but I cant use all the search features (the hidden ones). For example, this search does not work (it used to work in the “other” deviantart plugin) boost:popular in:photography/people/portraits max_age:168h

What I am trying to do is show the popular item over the last week in the category. This search returns the “newest” not the “popular”

  • scribu says:

Thanks for pointing that out. Fixed in version 1.7.2

  • Vetto says:

My search works GREAT! Thanks, (rated this 5 starts at wp/extend)

  • BadKitteh says:

I’m also running into problems with attempting to activate the plug-in. I see the same message as Tami, “Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_CLASS in /home/badkitty/public_html/wp-content/plugins/deviant-thumbs/deviant-thumbs.php on line 26″

This is after the upgrade to v1.7.2 of the deviantThumbs plug-in, and my host is running PHP 5.2.6

  • Eleora says:

When I’m activating the plugin I’m getting:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_CLASS in /wp-content/plugins/deviant-thumbs/deviant-thumbs.php on line 26

Downloaded the plugin today, using Version 2.6.3 and PHP 4.4.8.

I wish I could get it to work, looks like one of the most useful DA plugins I’ve seen

  • scribu says:

It doesn’t work with PHP4. Maybe I will make it compatible in a future version, but I don’t guarantee it. You should switch to a host that has PHP5.

  • BadKitteh says:

The hosting provider I use is running PHP 5.2.6 and I’m still seeing the error I mentioned above and that some others area getting. Wordpress version is 2.6.2 and I’ve tried both version 1.6.1 and 1.7.2 of the plug-in, both ending with the same error.

If it may be related to the Wordpress version, I was going to be upgrading WP tonight and see if that fixes anything, even though that’s the same version as the person above.

Otherwise, I’m not sure what else to do aside from resigning myself to not being able to have a neat dA plugin on my site.

  • scribu says:

I sent you an email a few days ago with a modified version of the plugin. I can send it to you again, if you didn’t get it.

  • Vetto says:

Just a hint, if you add “!attribute:DEV_META_MATURE” at the end of the search you will filter out images marked as “mature”. Great option for the category searches.

  • Krzysztof says:

hi, thanks very much for this plugin, but I have question: what I am supposed to do that frame was centre (this is link to problem: http://krzysztofbanasdesign.net23.net/?page_id=115). I would like so that the devArt frame will under “INSPIRACJE” but a little bit moved to the right. what I am supposed to change in CSS? Thanx. Sorry 4 my english:/

  • Nivelis says:

I got polish wordpress and get ‘critical error’ while installing plugin (not specified, just ‘there was critical error during activate’).

    I checked older versions – 1.7.8 stil not worked, 1.6.1 works :P

    any idea?

  • Coggi says:

I got a problem, when i activate this plugin it won’t allow me to use theme-editor or plugin-editor anymore saying always “this file can’t be edited” :S When i deactivate the plugin everything works. I’m using a fresh install of wordpress 2.7.1 so the problem is only of this plugin :(

  • Coggi says:

    Yes, and php5 is on
